Iliopoulos to Economou for surveillance: “In any other country the prime minister would have already resigned”

With its new announcement, SYRIZA responds to the statements of the government representative, Yannis Oikonomou

The press representative of SYRIZA-PS, Nasos Iliopoulos, gave an answer to the government representative Yiannis Oikonomou regarding the monitoring of the EYP. “In any other country, after the evidence of surveillance of a minister by the EYP and the lies of Mitsotakis, the prime minister would have already resigned.”

“Until the day before yesterday, we were slanderers and should be ashamed. Today, when it is revealed that Mr. Hatzidakis was for at least a year the 5046c target of the EYP, the government representative does not denounce slander, Aesop and false lists, but “dirty networks that provide information and channel material”.

This is the first, albeit timid, acceptance of the government’s guilt for the monitoring by the EYP apart from Mr. Koukakis and Androulakis, and Mr. Hatzidakis.

Last line of defense, that Mr. Mitsotakis allegedly did not know, but some malicious circles in the EYP, where he is the head, have autonomousd themselves and are illegal. The supposed proof that it’s not related is the famous way he reacted. Not the way he has been hiding behind secrecy, illegalizing and concealing for four months, nor the way he chose the day before yesterday to escape from Parliament without giving answers to the Leader of the Opposition.

In any other European liberal democracy Mr. Oikonomou today, along with admitting the diversion, would also announce the resignation of the prime minister. In Greece, however, he has the audacity to close his announcement with admonitions for the patriotic good and the course of progress that will not be stopped.

A little shame wouldn’t hurt.”
