Panagiotopoulos on surveillance: “EYP has nothing to do with the Ministry of National Defense”

SYRIZA’s parliamentary representative Yannis Ragousis called on the Minister of National Defense Nikos Panagiotopoulos to answer whether he was aware of the surveillance of the head of the Armed Forces.

On the sidelines of the discussion of his current question on the subject of “illegal prosecutions of Officers, outside the organic positions of the Navy and the Air Force”, Yiannis Ragousis addressed the present Minister of National Defense on the issue.

“Did you or did you not know that the EYP was monitoring the Chief of the Armed Forces? You must take a stand. It is a major issue both for national security and for the Armed Forces and for democracy in the country, that the EYP monitors the head of GEETHA. Did you know that? And if so, what did you do to prevent it? Did you use the surveillance footage? A reasonable question too”, said the parliamentary representative of SYRIZA.

“Mr. Ragousi, according to your favorite tactic, you seek to divert the discussion elsewhere with this last part regarding the monitoring of the Head of GEETHA by the EYP”, said the Minister of National Defense Nikos Panagiotopoulos and added:

“Of course the Ministry of National Defense has nothing to do with this case, because the Ministry of Defense has nothing to do with the Ministry of National Defense, you know that. You want an answer from me. Maybe tomorrow, in one more list – I don’t know, in the end as we said we will all be on this list – there will be other persons and the political leadership of the Ministry of National Defense under surveillance, not by the EYP, surveillance in general. What to do; We await the next issue to see, as with Sunday’s once-offers, the next part of the list to comment on. To your question though….what can I refute since I don’t know. Since I don’t know. And what do I have to do with surveillance? Absolutely none, right?’

From the opposition benches and off the microphone, Mr. Ragousis commented on the response of the Minister of National Defense. Nikos Panagiotopoulos then replied to the MP: “If you understand that I am confirming (including the monitoring of the head of GEETHA) when I say that I do not know, this is your own idiosyncratic logic and idiosyncratic thinking.”
