With the expression of regret for the sixteen-year-old who lost the battle for life today in Thessaloniki, he began his speech on the state budget 2023, the general rapporteur of the ND, Lazaros Tsavdaridis.

In the presence of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, Mr. Tsavdaridis pointed out that in the midst of a period of unprecedented crises, “the Greek economy, with the New Democracy government at the helm, is showing great endurance and has strong dynamics, as recognized by all the reports of the official bodies abroad .

-An economy that in the last three years has been upgraded 11 times, with four of them during the energy crisis, and one place below the coveted investment grade that is a national capital goal to launch its prospects.

-An economy with an economic growth rate of 5.6% for 2022 and 1.8% for 2023, which is expected to grow at double the European average in 2022 and triple the rate in 2023.

-An economy that sees inflation fall further in November, to 8.5%, and is now a point and a half below the eurozone average, being lower than many countries such as Portugal, Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany and Austria.

-An economy that returns in 2023 to a general government primary surplus of 0.7 of GDP from a primary deficit of 1.6 this year.

-A resilient and growing Greek economy with A.E.P. which is expected to exceed €224 billion in 2023 and public debt which is expected to decrease by 25% of GDP compared to 2021, with trends to further decrease by almost 10% for 2023 to form the lowest level since 2010, recording the largest reduction of public debt in the whole of Europe.

-A rough and qualitatively different Greek economy in which foreign investments now exceed 5 billion euros. With the European Commission estimating that Greece will be the champion in terms of investment growth in Europe over the next three years. And the relevant Economist index records a jump of 16 places for our country in the business environment”.

In his speech, Mr. Tsavdaridis criticized the official opposition for remaining obsessively loyal to the nihilistic criticism, to the economic adventures, to the inexpensive bidding of benefits. He repeats, he said, fatal mistakes of the past for the country, clinging paralyzingly to delusions and political irresponsibility and happily waits for the eurozone to enter a recession in order to blame Kyriakos Mitsotakis for that as well. “She sheds crocodile tears as an official opposition to the impoverishment of society, when Mr. Tsipras himself declares that if he had 50 billion euros, then he would rule until he was bored. That is, in simple words, SyRiza on the one hand shouts that we are allegedly abandoning society to its flames and on the other jealously confesses that we rule because we have strengthened and indeed brave households and businesses”.

The ND government, said the general rapporteur of the majority, unlike the SYRIZA government, does not connect the achievement of primary surpluses with the bleeding of the small and medium class and the pursuit of healthy entrepreneurship. It does not link the filling of the coffers with the inflation of taxation and the soaring of social security contributions. It does not connect the development perspective of the country with the revival of statism and the collapse of trade unionists. “He does not draw up budgets and programmatic statements like you, in the absence of evidence and data, and solely on the basis of ideologies, delusions, invisible money trees, daugies that you would bear, and risks that you would pass on to defiant neighbors.”

On the contrary, said Mr. Tsavdaridis, the current government links development with prudent management, the multiplication of tax revenues with the ability of citizens and businesses to be able to repay debts that they consider to be fair, proportionate and remunerative. It connects the quality of life with the modernization of the state. It connects economic prosperity with the protection of social cohesion and with solidarity in difficult years so that you are not left behind. It links the advance to subsidizing work instead of subsidizing unemployment which you did, and which unfortunately in several cases led indirectly to subsidizing unemployment. It mainly connects work commitment, the sense of duty and self-sacrifice of categories of our fellow citizens with the obligation of the state to recognize and reward the economic services they offer in difficult times.

Based on this perspective, said Mr. Tsavdaridis, the one-time aid of 600 euros to police and port guards is the minimum sign of gratitude of the Greek state for “the great support that the uniformed officers put in during these difficult years”. He even spoke of “backbiting by SYRIZA, which yesterday voted against the relevant amendment to withdraw today and finally vote in favor. It is a concept of flattery and political undressing,” said Mr. Tsavdaridis.

Finally, the general rapporteur of the ND said that “the New Democracy of rational and clear budgets stands up against the imaginary left of absurdity. For the government of the New Republic, the 2023 budget does not simply rationally budget the country’s economy for the next year, it clearly budgets the country’s development logic for the next generations. The compass of the budget preparation is not simply the management of budgetary figures, it is the strengthening of the psychology of the Greek people, the strengthening of their faith in the homeland or the realization that social evolution comes with efforts with evaluation and with a commitment to quality”.
