The investigations of the Belgian authorities into the QatarGate scandal that has shaken the European Parliament are continuing at a rapid pace, with the Belgian police today carrying out new raids on offices in Strasbourg and Brussels, while MEP Eva Kaili and four more arrested remain in prison.

As reported by the Belgian media, the cash “burned” Ms. Kaili’s immunity, while according to the editor-in-chief of L’Echo and Le Soir, who spoke exclusively to SKAI, Julien Balboni, “the investigators opened Pandora’s box. In other words, there are many people under investigation.”

“Leaf and feather” mobiles and computers

The Belgian authorities have since yesterday carried out continuous raids on at least ten offices, while during today’s raids on offices in Strasbourg and Brussels, two offices were sealed. According to Politico, one of the two offices “sealed” by labor inspectors is the office of Michelle Ryu, a member of the subcommittee on human rights.
They have already collected a lot of electronic data, hard drives making “leaf and feather” the content of e-mails as well as their recipients.

More than 1.5 million euros the seized money from Kaili – Pantseri

According to the public prosecutor’s announcement, so far more than one and a half million euros in cash have been found and confiscated, with most of it located at the house of Pancheri, who is also considered a pivotal person in the investigations. At the same time, 150,000 euros were found in Eva Kaili’s house and a large amount which is not specified in a hand luggage held by the MEP’s father.

Brussels prosecutor’s spokesman: “Six arrests have been made”

The representative of the Brussels prosecutor’s office, Eric Van Duyse, speaking exclusively to the SKAI news bulletin, pointed out that “so far six people have been arrested. One has been released on the orders of the investigating prosecutor and one has been released on condition meaning he is charged with certain matters and four are now in prison in Brussels.”

Referring to the procedure followed in Belgium he pointed out that “before five days have passed since the arrest they have to come before what we call a council and this is an independent entity that decides whether the order is correct or not. So there has to be an independent view on the investigation and decide whether the arrest warrant is legal and indeed justified or not.

Regarding when the investigations started, he pointed out that they started five to six months ago.

The arrested will appear before the investigator tomorrow

Tomorrow, Wednesday, the four arrested will be taken to the Brussels courthouse where they will testify behind closed doors at 12:40 Greek time. There it will be decided whether they will be remanded in custody or released with restrictive conditions. What the investigator will consider is:

– If they will be considered fleeing suspects
– If they will be suspected of committing the same crime
– Or they are suspected of conspiracy

Kaili is in luxury prisons

For now, Eva Kaili has been transferred and is being held in Haren Prison, where they are located 7.5 kilometers outside the center of Brussels. These are newly built prisons with better building infrastructure and detention conditions than the prisons where they were held in the previous days.
