The presidential decree signed yesterday by Abdel Fattah al-Sisi leaves Turkey out of negotiations
Egypt, with a presidential decree signed yesterday by the country’s president, Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, demarcated the maritime borders with Libya, a fact that calls into question the Turkish-Libyan memorandum, SKAI correspondent Manolis Kostidis reports from Istanbul.
As reported by Kathimerini, “Sisi’s decree number 595/2022 demarcates the maritime borders with Tripoli to the west, based on the drawing of a straight line, which conceivably cuts the Turkish-Libyan memorandum in half again and completely ignores the views of Anchors like these are reflected in all the texts signed with the government of Tripoli”.
The above decree leaves a point on the map under negotiation between Greece, Libya and Egypt, leaving out Turkey, reports Manolis Kostidis, who notes that Egypt is a serious state that carefully measures every step it takes.
“Egypt’s stance clearly indicates that for Cairo the Turkish-Libyan memorandum is an empty letter and that possible demarcations should be made with a completely different logic than the one that Ankara is trying to impose unilaterally,” Kathimerini also reports.
