The Italian Corriere della Serra reports today on the investment made in Paros by Eva Kaili and her partner Francesco Giorgi, with the purchase nine months ago of a plot of 7 acres worth around 300,000 euros.

“On 7 December, two days before the operation that led to the Qatargate arrests, Eurojust asked Italian prosecutors to investigate the purchase of an apartment in the city of Cervinia that was suspected to have been bought with bribe money.

A corresponding classic “recycling” business (money laundering) that could be hidden behind the investment made by Kaili and Giorgi to build a villa on the beautiful island of Paros”, the publication states.

The Italian investigation into possible money laundering concerns a 90 square meter apartment bought last April in Cervinia by the Belgian company Nakaz, whose director was Nicolo Figa-Talamanca, the fourth person arrested by the Belgian authorities.

According to the newspaper, it is being investigated whether the property was bought with money from Panzeri’s Fight Impunity NGO or direct funding from Qatar or Morocco – in which case it could be confiscated at the request of the prosecutor.

The 300,000 euro plot of land in Paros is subject to a similar investigation by the Greek financial prosecutor’s office, while at the same time the assets of the Greek MEP in Greece have been frozen, Corriere della Serra writes.
