Pulse poll for SKAI shows several reshuffles in the political landscape – How the Qatargate scandal and accuracy affect

By Antonis Anzoletou

The closer the election, the more important the polls become and the most useful tool in the party headquarters. No one disputes that the economy shows the winner at the polls and it is no coincidence that both contenders for power focused on this area during the budget debate.

The latest Pulse poll conducted on behalf of SKAI from December 18-19, shows that there are several rearrangements in the political scene. Despite the constant reports on the case of surveillance, the measures announced by the government to combat accuracy seem to tip the scales in favor of the majority. The New Democracy in voting intention, with a reduction on valid ones, rises one unit in relation to the measurement carried out from November 19-22, reaching 34%. Stagnant at 26% remains o SYRIZA and a 1% drop is presented by PASOK (10.5%). The KKE would vote for 5% of respondents (-0.5%). Without any change, the Hellenic Solution and MeRA25 are reflected in the measurement with 4% and 3% respectively. The Greek National Party appears at 2.5% and the National Creation at 1%. Another party they would vote for, if we had elections on Sunday, 4.5% and 9.5% of the sample of 1,103 adults remains in the “pie” of undecideds.

Those who have not yet decided what they will vote for are the “critical audience” at this time for the parties. Previous exit polls have shown that one in four decides who wants to represent him with a majority in the Parliament when elections are called and 10% when he is in front of the screen.

The big pressure, based on the poll, seems to be transferred this time to the PASOK. This is the reason why Kyriakos Mitsotakis is constantly trying to identify the party of Nikos Androulakis with SYRIZA after the Qatar Gate case. The center-right voters who had “moved” last year around this time to Charilaou Trikoupi are an electoral segment that is of great concern to Piraeus Street. And the developments with Eva Kaili are likely to be the “accelerator” of important shifts in the next period.

With the eyes of the citizens focused on the revaluations in the market, the Prime Minister records an increase of two points in the suitability index for economic and development issues, reaching 37%. Next is Alexis Tsipras with 26% and Nikos Androulakis with 7%. In a similar question, which of the leaders can better deal with foreign policy and defense issues, Kyriakos Mitsotakis leads with 45% (+2%), Alexis Tsipras is reflected at 24% (-2%) and Nikos Androulakis at 4% (-2%). For issues of transparency, 28% of respondents trust the prime minister, as does Alexis Tsipras. 10% prefer Nikos Androulakis.

The simple analogy that comes has fueled the debate about the governance model. The blue faction favors self-reliance in the second ballots, wanting a strong mandate from the first. SYRIZA has been in favor of alliances since the first Sunday with the aim of progressive governance. In Pulse’s crucial question, which government combination would you prefer, 41% choose New Democracy to participate in it. Either on its own (33%) or as a main body in a partnership (8%). 32% wish to see SYRIZA in Megaros Maximos either independently (15%) or as the main partner of a scheme (17%).

The gatherings New Republic and SYRIZA remain in the 70% zone with the two major parties still having a lot of work to do to protect their space. The blue faction wishes to preserve the primacy it acquired in 2019 in the center, while in Koumoundourou they believe that there is still a wide opposition field to lead again in the middle ground. Alexis Tsipras seems determined not to leave even his left field free. An indicative move was the inclusion of the former Member of Parliament of MeRA25, Angelikis Adamopoulos, in K.O. of the party.

In relation to the “market pass”, a concern is recorded, as 39% consider that definitely yes (19%) or probably yes (20%) will help to deal with the increased prices. The government believes that in combination with the household basket, a wall will be created against accuracy. According to Pulse, 53%, which apparently represents almost the entire opposition, thinks that probably not (21%) or definitely not (32%) it will not perform as expected.
