Based on this Presidential Decree, the graduates of these schools, even though they have completed 3-4 years of painstaking studies after High School, are excluded from being appointed to the public sector.
“The government of ND, with a surprise Presidential Decree concerning the qualification list for the public sector, equates the degrees – recognized by the Ministry of Education – of graduates of drama schools, conservatories, dance and cinema schools with the secondary education diploma.
Based on this Presidential Decree, the graduates of these schools, even though they have completed 3-4 years of painstaking studies after High School, are excluded from being appointed to the public sector.
In order to be hired, an additional university degree in any specialty is required. At the same time, the labor rights are being degraded even for those who already work in OTAs, conservatories and other sectors”, says the KKE in its statement and then points out:
“The Presidential Decree is not a bolt from the blue. It is the result of the policy followed by governments over time, especially in recent years, rejecting the request of artistic associations for the establishment of a public and free system of artistic education from the first school years to the University. In the territory of commodity culture, they seek to maintain and expand the panspermia and unevenness of art schools, which are mostly private.
That is why in recent years, based on EU guidelines, instead of including ungraded post-secondary artistic education in the Higher, University level, the debate on its classification has been strengthened by classifying it in ‘category 5’, i.e. its equation with the two-year IEK.
After all, this was also attempted by the SYRIZA government, which, under the pressure of the movement, was forced to withdraw in 2019 the relevant article of “N. Gavroglou”, which referred to musicians.
There is no doubt that such a classification will not only lead to a degradation of artistic studies, but will also refer to the calendars the overdue request for the creation of Higher Art Schools, university level”.
The KKE emphasizes, concluding in its announcement, that “on the occasion of this development and the massive reactions of students and artistic associations, it is necessary to increase the fighting initiatives in all areas of culture and education in order to claim:
– The immediate withdrawal of the unacceptable PD 85/22.
– Substantial measures to upgrade artistic studies and art courses at school.
– Establishment of a system of public and free artistic education from the school years up to the University.
– Post-secondary artistic education exclusively at the highest, university level.
These are the basic conditions:
– To address the gross injustice against artists and students, students who pay dearly for a degree of dubious value.
– To pave the way for an artistic education that will respond to the level of development of the Arts and the modern needs of society and people of Art”.
