Meloni: “There is a close relationship with Kyriakos Mitsotakis – We sit at the same “table” at the Summits”

In Greece and its cooperation with the Greek government, the Italian Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni, mentioned today, answering a question of APE-MPE, during her debriefing interview, for the end of the year.

In the question about her recent meeting with Kyriakos Mitsotakis and the cooperation of the Greek government with the Italian government, as well as in her reference to the importance of the Greek “philotimos”, Georgia Meloni emphasized:

“I want to tell you, first of all, that I discovered the reference to “philotimos” while reading. I really liked it and saw that the meaning of this word was liked by everyone, numerous positive reactions. It is very important to do all that you can, with all your strength and effort, the meaning of the word “loving” is great. My relationship with Greece mainly concerns the reading of classical authors.

We had a particularly cordial and long meeting with the Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis. We share the approach on many issues, we sit side by side, at the same “table”, at the Summits. From the very first Synod, a close relationship developed. We coordinated on the issue of the energy ceiling, energy autonomy and security, but also on the management of migration flows and the protection of external borders.

With reference to the cooperation, always, of the two countries, Georgia Meloni added:

“You will remember that Greece, with Cyprus and Malta co-signed with Italy a text on the case of the Ocean Viking ship and underlined that there are countries that are more exposed to the whole matter. The work we did together must be continued and led to it being designated, in an official text, a priority of the European Commission, something that had never happened before.

The main theme of the next Summit will be immigration and the defense of the external borders. All this cooperation has been particularly efficient and we intend to continue it. Italy is investing in the Mediterranean dimension, and I believe it can play a central role in a number of issues, such as the energy field.

Our alliance with the Mediterranean countries, especially in Europe, is of key importance, while there are also very interesting issues in the field of defense. We have an excellent partnership, which we wish to continue.”
