A legislative initiative is coming for artists’ fees

What was decided at the extraordinary meeting in Maximos after the artists’ reactions to the presidential decree concerning their training and remuneration

An inter-ministerial meeting was held today at Megaros Maximos under Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis on the issue of upgrading and grading artistic education (Drama Schools, Dance Schools, Conservatories), as it is recognized as a key issue for the educational and cultural policy of our country.

It was pointed out once again that PD 85/2022 does not in any way change the hiring and remuneration regime of artists who serve in the State.

At the same time, it was agreed to undertake a relevant legislative initiative to determine the salaries of actors and dancers who provide artistic service to the public with a joint decision of the Ministers of Finance, Interior and Culture, harmonizing in a uniform manner the salary forecasts for all public bodies.

Furthermore, at the meeting it was decided that the Government should proceed in an orderly manner with both the upgrading and the grading of performing arts studies. The preparation of this complex undertaking which remains unresolved for decades is undertaken by Joint Committees with representatives of the Ministries of Education and Culture and the participation of renowned personalities from the fields of theatre, dance and music.

The meeting was attended by the Minister of Education and Religion Niki Kerameos, the Minister of Culture and Sports Lina Mendoni, the Minister of the Interior Makis Voridis, the Minister of State Giorgos Gerapetritis, the Minister of State Akis Skertsos, the Deputy Minister responsible for Higher Education Affairs Angelos Syrigos, the Deputy Minister responsible for Contemporary Culture Issues Nikolas Giatromanolakis, Deputy Minister to the Prime Minister Yiannis Bratakos, Deputy Minister to the Prime Minister and Government Spokesman Yiannis Economou, Secretary General of Fiscal Policy Thanos Petralias, Secretary General of Vocational Education, Training, Lifelong Learning and Youth, George Voutsinos the General Secretary of Contemporary Culture Eleni Doundoulakis, the General Secretary of Human Resources Public Sector Vivi Charalambogiannis, the General Secretary of Coordination Thanasis Kontogeorgis, the Head of the Economic Office of the Prime Minister Alexis Patelis and the Managing Director of Ethni of the Organization for the Certification of Qualifications & Vocational Guidance (EOPPEP) Ioanna Lytrivi.
