SYRIZA’s new spot on the minimum wage: Immediate increase to 800 euros – Repeal of the Hatzidakis law

by

SYRIZA proposes, among other things, the reinstatement of regulations on justified dismissal, on the eight-hour working day, on the basic principles of collective bargaining, on the declaration of working hours and overtime.

Alexis Tsipras uploaded the new SYRIZA spot on the minimum wage to his Twitter account.

Sources from SYRIZA commented that “the ‘many and good jobs’ promised to the young men and women of Greece by Mr. Mitsotakis in 2019 ultimately only concerned the army of blue converts, blue golden boys and the armies of his ‘Patsis’ registry of ND executives who are looting public money through the uncontrolled party of direct assignments and enriching themselves at the expense of the sweat of the social majority.

Every day new faces are revealed and the billions that have illegally ended up in blue pockets, at a time when the majority of society cannot make even half a month, cause vertigo.

The same sources continued: “The Mitsotakis government broke every record in hiring blue-collar workers by appointing three transferees every two days, as SYRIZA-PS has repeatedly complained based on the official data of the Ministry of the Interior. And indeed with a salary increased by 70% compared to 2019 and a high school diploma as a basic qualification, while in 2019 90% of employees needed a university degree. A regime of worthlessness and waste of resources that exacerbates the feeling of injustice in Greek society and especially among the younger ages with the main effect that many of them look for their future outside of Greece”.

According to the sources from Koumoundourou, the Greek labor market is characterized by a high and widespread degree of insecurity – a condition that becomes suffocating after the wide-scale deregulation of labor with the Mitsotakis – Hatzidakis laws – while Greece records the second highest rate of unemployment among young people (under 25) in the Eurozone.

Also, they note, there is a steep increase in the working poor in our country, who are unable to meet even their basic needs. At the same time, this situation also increases feelings of frustration/dissatisfaction with work, as the question of survival is intertwined with that of recognition.

“The need to utilize the resources of the Recovery Fund to strengthen young scientists, their inclusion in the production process and preventing a new wave of brain drain is a key programmatic priority of SYRIZA – PS. Something that Alexis Tsipras points out in his public interventions, both during his speech at the TIF and in recent thematic conferences.

According to the program elaborations of SYRIZA – PS, the ways to achieve the above are: Investing in research and knowledge. The change of the production model with highly qualified young workers and good wages.

“We have to change the production model so that it can ‘clip’ the human potential that remains unused. E.g. today we are planning an economy with the green transition as a central issue. They will need scientists who have studied a relevant subject and contribute. Likewise for the digital transition” states the president of SYRIZA – PS very often.

“The country has no future if the workers do not feel safe. The feeling of security must be restored in order to release the scientific and productive potential of the country” Al. Tsipras.

In today’s conditions it is the tip of the spear the immediate increase of the minimum wage to 800 eurosbut now in the midst of an inflationary crisis and establishment of an annual indexation mechanism.

Therefore for the current year with 10% inflation the minimum wage will go to 880 euros. The main priorities of SYRIZA – PS for labor extras are:

  • The abolition of Hatzidakis laws.
  • The reinstatement of arrangements for justified dismissal, for the eight-hour day, for the basic principles of collective bargaining, for the declaration of hours and overtime.
  • The re-establishment of SEPE. And the gradual implementation of the 35-hour working day without a reduction in wages.

In this context, SYRIZA – PS addresses the young men and women of the country with specific, fair and costed proposals – measures. In order to reverse this explosive situation, which breaks social cohesion, political change is required to restore the feeling of justice everywhere, in all areas that will give perspective and content to the lives of young people”, conclude the sources from SYRIZA.
