More and more drivers are repairing their cars themselves – They do their research before the workshop

by

Easy jobs such as washing, changing the wipers and checking fluids and oils, are now done “at home”

More and more drivers are taking it upon themselves, as far as possible, to repair their cars. According to a recent survey, drivers take care of their car themselves because they want to save money and time.

61.7% of men (there is an increase of 9% in 2022 compared to the previous year) say that they are willing to do or try to do work on their car, while the corresponding percentage of women is 30.4% ( an increase of 6.5% compared to 2021). Participants in YouGov Germany’s online survey pointed out that one task most people do themselves is changing the battery. A task that more than 50% of drivers consider a relatively easy task. Compared to 2021, in 2022 8% more drivers attempted to change their battery.

The survey showed that there is a very large percentage that believes in its capabilities. About 6% more drivers in 2022 compared to the corresponding percentage in 2021 undertake to change their car insurance. The percentage (1.4%) of drivers who decide to wash and polish their car has increased. Another easy task is changing the wipers, as well as checking the fluids and oils.

The result satisfies the drivers to a great extent, as one in three is satisfied with their work.

48.4% of drivers do it because they want to save time from being in the workshop, while 39% work on their car to spend their free time creatively and beautifully. Only 14.7% of car owners deal with wheels and tires at least once a month.

In recent times, more and more car owners are thinking about the cost of a garage, as 69.5% of respondents say they do it to reduce their expenses.

Before each repair they get information from the internet and watch similar videos in order to get useful information. 43% of car owners state that they have obtained the necessary knowledge for repair work from the information they obtained, 39.6% from information they got from friends or acquaintances, 24.2% got information from their mechanic (in the percentages there are people who declared both groups) and only a few (16.8%) report that they have enough knowledge to repair the car without help.
