Theodorikakos from Komotini: “Our borders at Evros are inaccessible”

“Strengthening security is a prerequisite for freedom, democracy and the well-being of citizens,” he pointed out the Minister of Citizen Protection Takis Theodorikakosin his intervention, at the event for the presentation of the development program of the region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, held in Komotini, as part of the two-day tour of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis in the region.

Especially for the Region of Eastern Macedonia-Thrace, Mr. Theodorikakos emphasized that strengthening security is a prerequisite for the region to emerge as an energy hub.

The Minister of Citizen Protection added that based on this priority, the government is moving on two axes: Border security and dealing with illegal immigration and the security of citizens and infrastructure throughout the country. And he added that our borders in Evros are inaccessible, pointing out that ELAS is effectively dealing with illegal immigration.

At the same time, he placed special emphasis on the completion of the “Akritas” Plan with the construction of the fence in Evros, recalling that yesterday the invitation was signed for the construction of another 35 km of the fence from the Psathades area to Kornofolia, with a budget of 100 million euros.

The minister noted that within it February 250 more border guards will be on duty and the announcement will be made to fill 150 more positions in the Rodopi and Kavala areas.

Upon his arrival in Komotini, Mr. Theodorikakos met with the Metropolitan of Maroneia and Komotini Panteleimon, who thanked him for his constant and intense interest in Thrace.

In his statements after the meeting with Metropolitan Panteleimon, Mr. Theodorikakos emphasized that the government guarantees the development of Thrace and the borders of the country and announced that within 2023 an Office against domestic violence will be established in Komotini, as according to the existing data has the most incidents compared to the other prefectures of the region.
