Koumoutsakos: Because I will attend the funeral of the former King tomorrow

From this purely human side, I intend to appear tomorrow in the Metropolis, says the ND MP

The ND MP and former minister will also attend the funeral of the former King Constantine tomorrow. George Koumoutsakos.

As he states in his post on his personal Facebook account, “for Greece, the institution of the monarchy since the 1974 referendum belongs to History and is judged by History. The Hellenic Republic, the 3rd Hellenic Republic is solid, strong and unshakable. It is not threatened by the exodus of the former King as it is nor would it be threatened if it were done with the honors of Head of State”, stressing: “I am not a devotee of the monarchy which is after all a hermetically sealed chapter of our history. But on a human level, honoring the dead is for us Greeks an integral part of our culture, values and traditions.”

The ND MP defends the “difficult decision that the Government wisely took” and attacks the Left which “once again did not recognize the moderate stance of the Center-Right and once again found reasons to fiercely attack our party and its statement Antonis Samaras which is a serious and substantial contribution to the public debate that has been provoked”.

Giorgos Koumoutsakos’ post in detail:

“The Hellenic Republic, the 3rd Hellenic Republic is solid, strong and unshakable. It is not threatened either by the exodus of the former King as it is nor would it be if it were done with the honors of a Head of State.

What endangers the Democracy is the division of the Nation. And I am sure that the last thing the late former King would have wanted was for his death to become a field of divisive confrontation of the Nation. And it is exactly this good of unity that the difficult decision that the Government wisely took wants to defend.

Unfortunately, once again, the Left did not recognize the moderate attitude of the Center-Right. He again found reasons to attack our faction and the statement of Antonis Samaras, which is a serious and essential contribution to the public debate that has been provoked.

Let’s just think about the image of division that would go everywhere in the world, showing a large part of the Greek people paying tribute and another demonstrating and accusing the “others” without measure…

Like any historical figure, the late former King had good and bad sides. Positive and negative political attitudes.

I am not a devotee of the monarchy, which is after all a hermetically sealed chapter of our history. But on a human level, honoring the dead is for us Greeks an integral part of our culture, values and traditions.

From this purely human side I intend to appear tomorrow in the Metropolis. And I will also appear as a small personal response to the small-mindedness of the Left that never recognizes the difficult decisions to ensure national unity that the Greek center-right consistently takes with courage.”
