‘Pelé stoner’: Zico blames Flamengo fans for disrespecting the King

by

“Zico, Zico, Zico, Zico, Zico… Pelé is a stoner, Maradona is a snorter”. It was this song that Flamengo fans sang during a moment that should have been a tribute to King Pelé at the opening of the Carioca Championship. However, this fact displeased the biggest Flamengo idol.

Zico made a video in which he asked the crowd to stop singing this song. “I would like to make this request not to sing this song that talks about Pelé and Maradona. Understand what these guys represent for their countries and also for me. If you want to honor me, use the creativity that I have offered you throughout my career” , said.

Friends and celebrities supported the former player’s speeches, such as Ana Furtado, Felipe Andreoli, Dado Dolabella and Du Moscovis.

Pele died at the age of 82 in late December after losing his battle to colon cancer. Between 1956 and 1977, he had a splendid career with 1,283 goals, five world titles – two with Santos and three with the Brazilian national team.

Last Friday (13), Pelé’s eldest daughter, Kely Nascimento, shared with her followers photos of the former player in the last days of his life at the Hospital Israelita Albert Einstein, in São Paulo. In a long text, she also thanked the medical team that took care of her father during his month-long stay at the site.
