Tsiaras on SKAI 100.3: “I want to believe that all parties will agree” on the block for Kasidiaris

Referring to the attitude of the official opposition, he noted that “one cannot see this issue as a reason to be politically opposed or to gain petty political benefits”.

“I want to believe that all political parties agree that persons who have been found outside the party, with extreme behavior or persons who have been convicted, cannot lead party formations or – much more – stand as candidates in elections” the Minister of Justice, Kostas Tsiaras, reported to SKAI 100.3.

Mr. Tsiaras expressed the expectation that the parties will rise to the occasion and deal with the corresponding legislative initiative of the government with the responsibility that belongs to them.

“I appreciate, he said, that if there are proposals, the government will look at them and adopt them, but to say that one has an opinion or to throw the ball in the platform is not responsible political behavior on an issue that we know historically data it has created and what risks it may create in the future”.

Referring to the attitude of the official opposition, he noted that “one cannot see this issue as a reason to be politically opposed or to gain petty political benefits”.

He distinguished the attitude of KINAL, stressing that so far it seems – at least newswise – that there is a more serious approach.

Asked to comment on the letter he received yesterday from the chairman of the Independent Communications Privacy Authority Christos Rammosasking to be informed about the procedure provided by the new law regarding the management of citizens’ requests for possible wiretapping, Mr. Tsiaras said that the “answers are in the law”.

“The law describes the directions that must be followed,” he said.

At the same time, he denied any scenarios of litigation between the government and the president of the Independent Authority.

“We are not of the opinion that the Independent Authorities are not needed, as has been expressed many times by opposition officials” he said and added that the government’s opinion is that the role of the Independent Authorities is extremely important for the smooth functioning of the Greek State.
