“There are some restrictions and they were ignored. It is not possible to accept a transaction with restrictions,” Akar said.
The Turkish Defense Minister appeared optimistic Hulusi Akar on the F-16 issue, ahead of the meeting, later today, between Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu and his American counterpart, Anthony Blinken.
As SKAI correspondent Manolis Kostidis reports from Istanbul, Akar said: “At the point we have reached, we are watching that the issue is progressing positively. We receive the necessary information. Our close cooperation with the US Secretary of Defense continues.
In the delegation and the bilateral meetings, we expressed to them that we expect positive and concrete results as soon as possible. We are moving in that direction.
There are some restrictions and they were. It is not possible to accept a transaction with restrictions.”
There is anxiety in Ankara about the outcome of the crucial meeting of the Turkish Foreign Minister of Turkey, Mevlut Cavusoglu with his American counterpart, Anthony Blinken in the afternoon (Greece time) in Washington.
Turkey is waiting for at least a positive statement from the American side about the F-16s, however, things are not so positive, as Washington is faced with both Turkey’s aggressive policy towards Greece, and the obstacles it poses for the accession of Sweden and Finland in NATO.
These issues are also expected to be on the discussion table between the two foreign ministers, with Ankara anxiously awaiting the messages that Anthony Blinken will send.
