The Rhode Island congressman’s reaction came in addition to the objections expressed by Sen. Robert Menendez, as well as Reps. Gus Bilirakis, Chris Papas, Nicole Malliotakis, John Sarbanis, and Frank Palone.

Reactions from US lawmakers against Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan are intensifying after a leak that has the US administration preparing to formally inform Congress of Ankara’s request to buy and upgrade F-16 fighter jets.

In particular, Democratic Congressman David Cicilini took aim at Turkey’s anti-ally policy, arguing that such behavior should not be rewarded with new F-16s. The Rhode Island congressman’s reaction came in addition to the objections expressed by Sen. Robert Menendez, as well as Reps. Gus Bilirakis, Chris Papas, Nicole Malliotakis, John Sarbanis, and Frank Palone.

For his part, MP David Cicilini noted in a post on Twitter that “under ErdoÄŸan’s leadership, Turkey continues to threaten Greece with missiles, block Sweden and Finland from joining NATO, endanger the US troops in Syria and ignore human rights and democratic norms. This behavior should not be rewarded with new F-16s.”

It is worth noting that all the issues mentioned by Mr. Cicilini were on the dialogue table during the recent meeting that the US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken had with the Turkish counterpart of Mevlut Cavusoglu at the State Department.
