“Following a procedure without any substantial basis is not legal, on the contrary, it is a breach of duty,” the SYRIZA MP said about the surveillance during her deposition in the Parliament during the debate on the motion of no confidence.
“What Mr. Voridis said, tonight in Parliament, exposes the government even more,” noted SYRIZA MP Efi Ahtsioglou, during the discussion of the motion of no confidence.
“Mr. Voridis said that all the surveillance carried out by the EYP during the administration of Mr. Mitsotakis is legal and that legality is a guarantor of the rule of law,” said SYRIZA MP Efi Ahtsioglou, during her deposition in Parliament on the debate on the motion of no confidence tabled by her party.
“Mr. Voridis considers the monitoring of the head of GEETHA, the head of GES and Mr. Hatzidakis to be legal. That is, for Mr. Voridis, the country’s military leadership was rightly considered dangerous for national security, because as he knows or should have known, legitimacy does not simply mean following a procedure, legitimacy also means substantial support”, added Ms. Ahtsioglou and underlined that “following a procedure without any substantial basis is not legal, on the contrary, it is a breach of duty”.
“What the Home Secretary is saying further exposes the government – which is why in the last two months it has changed the narrative and started talking about dirty networks. Today, Mr. Voridis canceled the story about dirty networks operating in the EYP”, said the SYRIZA MP and commented on the speech of the Minister of the Interior: “Mr. Voridis said that as in many other European countries, so in Greece there is a political position of the head who is also accountable. Pointing to Mr. Kontoleontas or Mr. Dimitriadis. What did he forget? The head, Mr. Mitsotakis, the man who has the responsibility for the EYP, based on his own choice, because he legislated it himself. What else didn’t he say? That this authority is inalienable”.
The proof from ADAE, the constitutionally competent authority, that these surveillances took place, the SYRIZA member of parliament said, is not an additional element for Mr. Voridis, while he himself said some time ago on a national channel that if there is evidence to prove the accusation, this will mean not just political, but criminal responsibilities for Mr. Mitsotakis.
The Minister of the Interior, the SYRIZA MP also said, “distorted the position of ADAE by saying that it spoke about legal connections, but ADAE did not make any judgment on the legitimacy, ADAE confirmed the surveillance and informed the political leaders and the president of the Parliament”.
“Mr. Voridis came to the conclusion that the prime minister has no responsibility because he did not know. In other words, he chose the position that shows that the prime minister is incompetent. Dangerously incompetent. And so he should resign. Whichever line of defense is followed leads directly to resignation. The one that says he didn’t know and is therefore dangerously incapable of guaranteeing national security, and the other that says he knew and coordinated it,” Efi Ahtsioglou also said.
Finally, the SYRIZA member of parliament underlined that the wiretapping scandal does not concern a theoretical debate on the interpretation of the Constitution or the rule of law, it does not even concern a battle between SYRIZA, ND and PASOK. “There is no winner and loser, here we are all losers from this case, both politicians and citizens. Because this assumption breaks the basic parameter by which we debate and take a position. The belief that a political figure does something because he wants it, because he considers it right and not because he is being blackmailed. This treaty has been formulated by Mr. Mitsotakis. This is the irreparable damage it has done to democracy. We are now called upon to put a stop to this slide. Those from the ND who slander and curse, are aware that such a regime cannot stand on its own feet for long. The fear has now changed sides”, said the MP.
