The pre-election “chess” has begun – Where are New Democracy and SYRIZA focusing?

The thematic press conferences of Kyriakos Mitsotakis, the Zappeion of Alexis Tsipras and the reactions on the political front

The pre-election “chess” is in full swing with SYRIZA trying to take the initiative of the movements. In the thematic press conferences started by Kyriakos Mitsotakis, Alexis Tsipras responded via Zappeio. After the motion of no confidence, the last parliamentary weapon he had to use was the abstention of the deputies from the votes of the legislative work. Yesterday the first act took place. They did not participate in a State Department trade deal ratification and a Defense Department welfare bill.

“Hermaphrodite attitude”, commented some MPs of the majority who saw SYRIZA participating in the debates in the Plenary, but not supporting its attitude through voting. From Koumoundourou, they emphasize that they do not want, in relation to the wiretapping case, to “legitimize” this diversion and the “156” of the New Democracy party that absolutely signed up with Kyriakos Mitsotakis during the motion of no confidence. Maximou is “rubbing his hands” because he will attempt to emerge as a force of normality and stability that does not approve of movements directed against parliamentarism. And from the moment a positive measure comes up for a vote in the Parliament, it is self-evident that the majority will “wait in the corner” for SYRIZA, which has chosen to abstain.

Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Alexis Tsipras it is clear that they have now started the final march towards the people, as the “sand in the hourglass” for the time of the elections is emptying. Discussions are expected to begin very soon for a possible debate between the two leaders, who always have many disagreements. Everyone is moving with April 9 in mind, regardless of whether Kyriakos Mitsotakis has chosen to speak with “uses”. “Some elections will definitely take place after Easter,” he said from Japan, prolonging the suspense. They do not want to follow this waiting in Koumoundourou and are now operating as if the elections have been announced. Today Alexis Tsipras is speaking at the party’s first pre-election rally to be held in Peristeri. Wiretapping and surveillance will now accompany the outings of the official opposition leader. It will be followed by Patras on Friday and next Monday’s speech in Thessaloniki.

As a response to the symbolic initiative of Alexis Tsipras, the cabinet will meet on Thursday. From Herodos Atticus they are trying to show that as long as SYRIZA will not vote in Parliament, the legislative project will run until the last day before its dissolution. And if this is estimated to be done around March 10, the government has at least a month and a half ahead of it. Because it is obvious that the exhortation of Alexis Tsipras during yesterday’s press conference that the elections be held within February, in 21 days, will not be listened to.

The prime minister is focusing on Attica and will visit the long-suffering Mati today. President Nikos Anastasiadis will be with him visiting the site where the works are being carried out for the creation of a Memorial Park with a donation from the Republic of Cyprus.
