Plevris: Tomorrow the new measures for “Omicron” – Opening hours in a restaurant without music – New Year’s Eve until 2 p.m.

The measures to deal with the pandemic were officially announced by the Minister of Health Thanos Plevris after the meeting of the committee of experts.

The measures that will take effect from Thursday 30 December at 6 am are as follows:

  • The entertainment / dining areas will be open until 24:00, while up to six people will be allowed at the tables.
  • Exceptions, especially for New Year’s Eve, may be restaurants, which will probably be open until 2 in the morning.
  • Standing customers and music will not be allowed.
  • Mandatory use of mask FFP2 / KN95 or double mask in supermarkets and public transport as well as catering workers.
  • Recommendation for double mask or high protection where there is coloration.
  • There will be a 10% limit on the stadiums with a maximum of 1,000 people.
  • Teleworking in both public and private sector up to 50%. There will be a rolling schedule.
  • In the care units for the elderly and the chronically ill, a 48-hour PCR visit and a stricter visit to the hospitals.
  • Any organized party in public or private space is prohibited

Special and clear recommendations for home gatherings on New Year’s Eve are also expected to be issued.

Regarding the situation in the national health system, he said that those who have been affected by the Delta mutation are mainly treated, but at the same time in the community it seems that the Omicron mutation is the dominant one. As he mentioned, the system is still under pressure from the Delta mutation, which is why we are in full agreement with the private structures to provide us with beds and staff.

According to Mr. Plevris, the committee unanimously calls on the citizens to be vaccinated, the vaccines cover the Omicron mutation, and not to spread false news that the vaccines do not cover it, he stressed.

He also said that the government will re-evaluate the whole framework both in terms of the obligation of vaccinations and for the time when the certificates will be valid.
