The Italian news agency Ansa reports that in a European source it contacted, it does not appear that there was an intervention by Antonio Panzeri, with the aim of possibly supporting the candidacy of Dimitris Avramopoulos
With reference to yesterday’s publication of the Italian newspaper La Repubblica, in its telegram, the Italian news agency Ansa states that “in a European source with which it came into contact, it does not appear that there was an intervention by Antonio Panzeri, with the aim of eventuality support for the candidacy of Dimitris Avramopoulos as the EU envoy to the Persian Gulf countries”.
The European source contacted by Ansa adds that “the High Representative of the European Union for foreign affairs, Jose Borel, has not received any email from the specific individuals, regarding the selection of the Union’s envoy to the countries of the Gulf”. At the same time, “the EU executive adds that this selection process is completely independent of the European Parliament”, reports Ansa.
“The Greek government supported the candidacy of Dimitris Avramopoulos, while the Italian candidate Luigi Di Maio was left without support, due to the change of government in Rome,” states the source of the Italian news agency. The entire process to fill this specific position is still ongoing and, according to the source of the Italian agency, “the relevant assessments have not been completed”.
