Mr. Economou expressed the hope to open a window to reduce the tension between Greece and Turkey

There was no way that Greece would remain inactive in the face of this tragedy that took place in Turkey, said the government representative, Yannis Oikonomou, speaking on the Today show, on SKAI television.

We were among the first to rush to help, the men of EMAK are doing a great job, Mr. Economou added and pointed out:

“We always say that we have never had anything to divide with the Turkish people. We used to say that aggressive rhetoric doesn’t help anything, so given that we are next to each other, Greece was one of the first to help. Unnecessary tensions are not needed.”

Subsequently, Mr. Economou expressed the hope to open a window to reduce the tension between Greece and Turkey.

“Greece is not an enemy. The Turkish people can see this,” he emphasized.

Regarding the Greeks who are missing, he emphasized that amid the chaos prevailing in Turkey, the services of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs are doing everything possible.

“In any case, Greece will be there” underlined the government representative.

When asked if it will affect their time elections in Greece the possibility of postponing the election time in Turkey, Mr. Economou responded negatively, saying that the decisions have been taken by the prime minister and are not determined differently by events in other states.

“The time of the elections has more or less been determined, everything the prime minister has said is valid, nothing has changed,” he said.

He then criticized SYRIZA for its decision to abstain from the parliamentary procedures: “It is an incomprehensible choice, SYRIZA has chosen to delegitimize the parliamentary procedure, it is running a toxic opposition” he said and added that “we will be there to pass laws ».

He even noted that with the law passed yesterday, the government has passed 400 laws since the beginning of the 4-year period.

Regarding the regulation that was voted and blocks Kasidiari’s party, Mr. Economou said that SYRIZA was also against this regulation, he did not want to prevent Kasidiari’s descent in the elections. “The actions of SYRIZA were such that it did not want to enter together with ND and PASOK,” he said.

He even emphasized that all the actions to put a brake on the activity of the Golden Dawn were done by ND governments.

When asked if there will be a debt settlement, he said that any measure that is announced is costed and must have maximum effectiveness.

Finally, regarding the fence on the Evros, he said that it will go ahead and become a tool for guarding the borders “either with the support of the EU or without”, while he called on SYRIZA to clarify its position on the matter.

“If they come to things again would they tear down the fence?” asked Mr. Economou.
