The commitment that the project of expansion of the natural gas distribution network in Florina will be completed by December 2023, was undertaken during tonight’s event in the area, the Minister of Development and Investment, Adonis Georgiadis, noting that “the schedule will be met after otherwise we will lose the money “.
Expressing his emotion that finally his region of origin, Florina, “where the prevailing cold can kill you”, as he characteristically said, will have access to cheap form of energy, natural gas.
Mr. Georgiadis announced, in fact, that in a few years the largest hydrogen production unit in Greece will be inaugurated in the Region of Western Macedonia.
Referring to the de-lignification, he said that it had mostly happened in the years 2014-2019, but – as he stressed – with a reduction in lignite production by 56%, without any plan and no provision for the inhabitants of Western Macedonia. He noted that in a few years and the last in the wider region will recognize that “it was a great fortune to de-escalate rapidly, a development decided and implemented by the Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis.”
Regarding the Fair Development Transition Plan (SDAM), Mr. Georgiadis announced in advance that “with great appetite we start from 1/1/2022 to set up its offices and website -which will be ready in a few months-, and we will present gradually large investments. “Prospective investors are already interested in investing hundreds of millions in the region of Western Macedonia.”
The Deputy Minister of Development and Investment, Nikos Papathanasis, referred to the discussions that already exist for the creation of a comprehensive program for the implementation of PPP projects in Western Macedonia, reminding that a total of 7.5 billion euros will “fall” in the region. Among other things, he referred to the program of business support from the green fund and that of training the unemployed.
For his part, the Deputy Minister of Transport, Michalis Papadopoulos, expressed his joy that the Mitsotakis government has put on track the implementation of the project to expand the natural gas distribution network in Florina.
Satisfied with the arrival of natural gas in acritic Florina, said for his part the CEO of the Public Enterprise of Gas Distribution Networks SA (DEDA), Marios Tsakas, emphasizing that this is a project of key importance for the local community, which will contribute reducing energy costs for thousands of households and businesses. At the same time, he added, the implementation of the project will be a lever for the development of the region with the creation of many new jobs.
Expressing his joy for the fact that no consumer will be charged a single euro to connect to the gas network and procure all the operating equipment, the mayor of Florina, Vassilis Giannakis noted that with the official start of the project today, The construction of the two vacuum stations should start immediately and stressed that the project specifications are harmonized, so that it can transport future and mixed fuel, something that can be included in the green projects and that will allow its expansion through funding from the new NSRF.
Mobilization of investments over 40 million euros and many new jobs
The project for the development of natural gas distribution infrastructure in Florina, which is expected to be completed in 2023, has a total budget of 20.9 million euros (plus VAT) and is co-financed by the Operational Program “Competitiveness, Entrepreneurship and Innovation” ( EPANEK) of the NSRF 2014-2020.
Through EPANEK, an additional funding of 20 million euros has been secured, for the 100% subsidy of the cost of the internal installation of 5,000 residential and commercial consumers, which will be connected to the natural gas network in Florina, while according to DEDA its implementation The project will mobilize a total investment of over 40 million euros.
The project concerns the construction of a total of 102.5 km of natural gas distribution network, which will not be limited only to the residential fabric of Florina, but will be extended to the industrial area and villages of the municipality.
In parallel with the construction works of the network, there will be connections of consumers of all categories (residential, commercial, industrial), as well as connections of public buildings, such as health units and schools, covering a large part of the energy needs of the region.
Tonight’s event was co-organized by the Public Enterprise of Gas Distribution Networks SA (DEDA) and the Municipality of Florina, while the “present” was given -among others- by the governor of Western Macedonia, George Kasapidis, local government officials of first and second economic operators of the Region.
