Intervention for pensioners, who did not see an increase due to a personal dispute, announced the Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, at the New Democracy party organizations’ pie cutting in Argyroupoli.

Because everywhere I go I hear some justified complaints about the issue of personal difference, I can tell you: just be patient, there will be good announcements for the pensioners who did not see any increase in the last month”, he emphasized, speaking, a little while ago, to the cake cutting event of the B3 DEEP (Managing Committee of the Electoral District) and the Prefectural Committee of the 2nd South Sector of Athens ONNED in Argyroupoli, where he “gave his presence”.

The first electoral contest is the crucial ballot box. This will send the message of who will govern the country for the next four years. And the dilemmas, you know, friends, are now very simple. It is not “democracy or New Democracy”, “social justice or authoritarianism”, some abstract things that I hear from the Official Opposition”, he noted. “Things are simple. Will we keep going forward or will we go back? Will we secure all the achievements of this four-year period, primarily lower taxes, or will we be back with a Government that will crush the middle class, as it did between 2015 and 2019? Will we continue to defend our borders as we have done with great success, or will we make the country “an open vineyard” again? Will we continue to support our Armed Forces and make targeted investments in equipment, or will we surrender to other geopolitical pursuits that refer to third world countries rather than member states of the Western world?

And finally, and most importantly: who should rule this place? New Democracy or SYRIZA? Kyriakos Mitsotakis or Alexis Tsipras? This is the final question that citizens will be asked to answer at the polls this spring“, he added.

The prime minister’s entire speech is as follows

Good evening and have a good year. I am very happy to be here with you today, my dear Mayor, in a place that is very familiar to me, just as I am also familiar with the entire District of Second Athens, which is now broken into three.

All the places here, in the Southern Sector, remind me of very good times that I ran through during my own political journey and I even remembered, as I came to meet you today, that in 2023 it will be twenty years since I took my first steps in politics, as a New Democracy MP candidate.

And I never forget that I am the Prime Minister of Greece because I am the President of New Democracy, our great political family. Of the faction that always rises to the occasion, of the faction that kept the country upright in very difficult circumstances during these four years that have passed us, so that we can confidently and with dignity look the citizens in the eyes and say to them: Yes, Greece today is stronger than it was four years ago.

Stronger economically, stronger geopolitically, more socially cohesive and this despite the fact that, as you know, we have faced very big storms in these four years: A pandemic, an aggressive neighbor, large refugee pressures and now a war in Ukraine, which resulted in the largest global price increase seen in forty years. And yet, in the face of all these challenges, we succeeded and stood close to the citizens, primarily to our weakest fellow citizens. Remember the years of the pandemic and how we supported businesses, workers, all Greek men and women, spending more than 40 billion.

And think about what we’re doing now to deal with this unprecedented wave of precision: The support we’ve given to households, the fact that within the next month Market Pass will be launched which will give you 10% off all the purchases you make at the supermarket.

The fact that in these difficult conditions for the first time we had a significant pension increase in 12 years. And because everywhere I go I hear some legitimate complaints about the personal difference thing, I can tell you: just hang on, there will be good news for retirees who didn’t see a raise in the last month.

So, friends, this faction proves how it perceives progress and social cohesion. And with this work that we have done we will come to the election contest, which will take place in a few months, with the party organized, confident, confident to win a second election by a wide margin so that we can be self-reliant, to be able to defend the concept of independent Greece, as we have done these four years.

And I want to repeat something that I say in every public intervention, because I know that I am addressing old and new party officials. And I know many of you have a lot of experience with elections. The first electoral contest is the crucial ballot box. This will send the message of who will rule the country in the next four years.

And the dilemmas, you know, friends, are now very simple. It is not “democracy or New Democracy”, “social justice or authoritarianism”, some abstract things that I hear from the Official Opposition. Things are simple.

This is the final question that citizens will be asked to answer at the polls this spring.

I am glad, my dear President, to see our party machinery in full readiness. I want to tell you that the President, as you know, has a party history, as I remember – and I never forget it – that when I was an ordinary member of parliament every time I went up to Ymittos there was a Local, which was open. And it was his father’s Local and I am glad that now there is that continuity and I am glad that our party machinery is on full alert.

I am glad, dear Mayor, that there is also an excellent cooperation with the Local Government, it is something in which all our executives have also helped. You know, here in the South Sector we have nine MPs. I want us to get at least ten next time. With Giorgos Patoulis, we have worked on many issues concerning the Southern Sector. And of course here in your Municipality, my dear Mayor, we have finally solved the issues of the common areas and of course the investment in Elliniko, you all see, is now progressing at a very fast pace.

And also to highlight the great, great job you have done in protecting Hymettus, as you know how prepared we must be. You remember last year the first fire was here, a little above us, that happened to us. But I think we have proven that we have also made great progress in matters of civil protection, because the first concern of the state must always be the protection of human life, the protection of property and the protection of the environment. And I want to highlight the excellent cooperation we have with the Local Government at all levels. And this will continue the next day as well.

Of course, I want to say, friends, that our New Republic pies are a little more traditional, a little more conservative, because I was informed that some zeibeki was added to the Mayor’s pie, you won’t see such things here. Here we are more disciplined, more conservative, but, in any case, I am glad to see so many people here, why? Why will we ask you now, now the serious work of preparation will begin by Pavlos Marinakis and our party officials, because as you understand we cannot say that we are the first party, the first force, the most organized party in Europe and not have electoral representatives at each polling station. Is not that right; So we’re going to ask for your help once again so that when election day comes we are, friends, absolutely ready to do our job at all levels. And have no doubt that when the last vote is counted, the trust of the Greek citizens will be placed once again in our great party, New Democracy.

So, I will now cut the first piece of Christ – the father has already cut it – but I want to cut a piece which I think – this is Christ’s – I think that at this juncture it has a special significance. I want to cut a piece for the EMAK rescuers. These guys deserve your applause. Because they were the first on the front line and proved that nothing separates our peoples, that we can live amicably with Turkey and that ultimately our relations are much deeper even in difficult times. In difficult times, true friends can be seen and I don’t think there is a stronger image for the future of Greek-Turkish relations, than that of the EMAK rescuer together with a Turkish colleague pulling a young girl out of the wreckage of this devastating earthquake. And I hope through this drama, through this unspeakable disaster, humanitarian, but also infrastructure-level disaster – I was talking a while ago with the Secretary of State, who came back from Turkey. We are talking about an unprecedented disaster – at least something good should emerge in terms of relations between the two peoples. This part, therefore, is deserved by the staff of EMAK, just as everyone who wears the national emblem deserves it, whether they are our border guards, whether they are the officers of the Coast Guard, whether they are our pilots, or whether they are the children who are in the submarines. So many who stay awake 365 days a year so that we can all sleep peacefully. The country owes them a lot and the officers of the Armed Forces and our uniformed officers know that we are the faction that practically always stands by them.

Well, I want to thank you again. You know I hadn’t been able to go to any pies this year, because I had a heavy schedule and I was a little sorry to come.

I’m so glad I made it and came and met with you over here. Again, I wish you a good year, health and joy in your families and great joys in our great political family, the New Republic.

I am sure that with your help we will succeed again. Be well, good strength and happy new year.
