The government is willing to continue supporting earthquake victims in Turkey and Syria, a senior diplomatic source has said

The undivided willingness of the Greek government to continue supporting the earthquake victims in Turkey and Syria expressed a top diplomatic source of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on the sidelines of the ministry’s New Year’s pie cutting event.

As he characteristically underlined, it is very important that our neighboring country remains standing, after this great tragedy.

He also mentioned that at the moment Turkey’s main needs are containers and winter tents, while there is no need to send a new EMAK crew.

“The main thing at the moment is to be useful to Turkish society with both the bilateral and the European hat,” the same source noted.

On Monday, the Foreign Affairs Council will discuss the issue of Syria and how best to organize the aid mission.

At the pie cutting ceremony, held for the first time since the pandemic, the Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikos Dendiasthanked the Deputy Minister, the Deputy Ministers, the General Secretaries and all the officials of the Ministry “for the enormous effort made under difficult conditions all these years”.

“We have fulfilled our duty”, said Mr. Dendias and emphasized the enormous possibilities and opportunities for a foreign policy that can act beyond our own horizon.

“Greece grew thanks to the efforts of all of us,” referring to the expansion to 12 nautical miles of territorial waters in the Ionian.

The fleur was won by the vice admiral Alexandros Diakopoulos.
