Kyriakos Mitsotakis pointed out on Friday, participating in a panel in the framework of the 59th Munich Security Conference on Migration, that Greece as a frontline country is committed in protecting its borders, which are also external borders of the European Union, but also in respect of International Law and human rights.

Mr. Mitsotakis referred to the positive, as he characterized, decisions of the recent informal European Council in Brussels, however he insisted that the EU must achieve a delicate balance between the frontline countries and the rest of the European partners. “As a front line country it is clear that we need solidarity on the part of Europeans of our partners”, characteristically said Mr. Mitsotakis

In addition, Mr. Mitsotakis emphasized that against the background of the country’s agreements with Egypt and Bangladesh for the arrival of a certain number of economic immigrants to Greece, it also sends a message that EU countries are open to the path of legal immigration.
