157 voted for the removal, 2 against the removal, 12 voted present – The decision comes after a lawsuit for defamation filed by ND MP, Kostas Maraveyas
Accepted by majority the application was made in favor of lifting the immunity of the SYRIZA MP, Pavlos Polakis following a defamation lawsuit filed by the ND MP, Kostas Maraveyas.
A total of 171 deputies voted. 157 voted for the removal, 2 against the removal, 12 were present.
It is recalled that the MP for Magnesia of the ND filed a lawsuit against Mr. Polakis after the public attacks he received for illegal financing from the Development Law, which the Maraveja family collected. In his statements, the ND MP had spoken of a slanderous campaign against him, which was not the result of idiocy, but on the contrary of pre-planned expediency.
During today’s session of Parliament, the two MPs exchanged heavy fire while Pavlos Polakis did not fail to say a word of praise closing his speech. “Friends give strength to man, like oil that keeps the flame in the candlestick“, he said and continued: “Pride, humanity, bravery and bravery are what give the MP value”. In fact, stepping down from the podium, he called on the deputies to vote for the seventh successive lifting of immunity in the last four years. “Vote now, but we’re coming fast», he said.
Pavlos Polakis argued during his speech that he has been targeted by the majority because of his complaints about embezzlement of public money.
“Through the ongoing lawsuits, the ND is trying to delegitimize me morally and politically,” he said characteristically. He then added that “there is no final judgment condemning me”.
“They are justifiably afraid of the next SYRIZA government because it will not simply cut them off but will demand back what they took away. Your passion for me and the Transparency department of SYRIZA is justified,” he said at another point.
