The journalist and politician Giorgos Romaios died on Thursday morning at the age of 89.
Giorgos Romeios was a journalist, writer and politician. He was director of “Vimas”, director general of ERT, MP, MEP and vice-president of the European Parliament and minister with PASOK.
He was born in Corfu and lived in Athens since 1952. In parallel with his studies at the Higher School of Economics and Commercial Sciences (ASOEE), he began to publish in the local newspapers of Corfu, Ephemerida ton Isiseni and Eleftheria. From 1958 to 1981 he worked at the To Vima newspaper as a parliamentary and political editor, Editorial Director and Director of the Sunday Vima.
Has been:
– Vice-president of the Union of Athenian Newspaper Editors (1976-1978).
– Director General of ERT (1981-1984)
– President of the first Governing Board of the Ionian University (1984).
