In yesterday’s statements by Pavlos Polakis, the heads of Transparency, Yiannis Ragousis (in place of Polakis, who was dismissed) and Justice, Theofilos Xanthopoulos, are mentioned in their joint announcement.

The two Heads of SYRIZA – PS clarify that “the political statements of Pavlos Polakis as formulated in his post yesterday are absolutely contrary to our unanimously approved programmatic announcements on the functioning of the state, justice and institutions”.

As they note: “They were formulated in response to the interview of the President of SYRIZA, Alexis Tsipras, in the newspaper “Proto Thema”, in an unprecedented and completely unjustified manner.”

They also refer to the intervention of the Athens misdemeanor prosecutor’s office “which requests that the offenses of inciting citizens to commit crimes and violence against judicial officials be investigated”, saying that “it should not become part of the political game”.

According to the announcement:

“Political opinions, no matter how much one disagrees with them, cannot be the subject of prosecutorial intervention and even selective intervention. After a short time ago, the public and repeated statements of Minister A. Georgiadis that “Touloupaki should go to prison” or of the same Minister M. Voridis “we should intervene in the State so that the Left does not return in any form to the power”, did not provoke the slightest prosecutorial reaction. Also, the very recently established illegal surveillance against the leadership of the Armed Forces was also considered without legal significance.”

In closing, they state: “It is obvious that the slogan of SYRIZA-P.S. for “Justice Everywhere” becomes painfully topical and is now an imperative social necessity”.
