“The Polaki issue changes the facts of the election,” the Minister of Civil Protection emphasized
Guest on the show SKAI’s “Today”. by Dimitris Oikonomou and the Akis Pavlopoulos was the minister of civil protection, mr. Takis Theodorikakoswho referred to Pavlos Polakiscondemning his post against judges and journalists, while at the same time commenting that the Polaki issue changes the facts of the elections.
Initially, Mr. Theodorikakos emphasized that “I condemn this type of unacceptable, extremist and fascist mentality and inspired posts which are directly against democracy and our country. Every political force must condemn them.
We cannot, because we do not like someone, say that he must cease to exist. In fact, it bordered on terrorism and represents a deeply totalitarian, divisive concept.”
Then the minister of civil protection emphasized that “the problem is not whether Polakis opposes the leader of SYRIZA, but whether or not this perception has been uprooted from the official opposition, because to be frank, such perceptions were also expressed with the phrase “either we finish them or they finish us”.
Mr. Theodorikakos believes that the Polaki issue, which arose a few weeks before the polls, is expected to affect the results of the elections:
“I believe that this development changes the data of the elections to a very large extent. On the one hand there is the proposal of the New Democracy, responsible, serious, a guarantee of stability for the country and for its sustainable perspective, development and justice for the citizens, in better conditions than those we have spent the last four years with trials and crises due to external factors, and on the other hand there is an official opposition that has no proposal for power.
It does not have a government proposal a few weeks before the elections and it is given over to an internal intra-party civil war, without momentum and without a positive reason for what society needs.”
At the same time, he criticized SYRIZA, which had not done its self-criticism for so many years:
“For so many years, SYRIZA in the opposition has not looked at itself in the mirror. He did not want to shake off the perceptions that Mr. Polakis described in the most acute, aggressive and partisan way, and he does so a few weeks before the elections. So the credibility of the act is questioned and its effectiveness as I believe that there are many supporters of SYRIZA who have the same perceptions.
Mr. Polakis was not and is not a random person because he was allowed within SYRIZA to have a very powerful role. There is, in my opinion, a big problem within the official opposition.
What society wants is the condemnation of such unprecedented vile extremist notions that are against society and democracy.
It is not possible for a member of parliament who has also served as a minister to say that the 2nd time will be different, we will arrange for you 500 of our own judges to come and judge.
This is fascism, it is the abolition of democracy. It is an unprecedented totalitarian concept, which cannot be accepted by the Greek people and our democratic state”.
Within the week, the contract for the 35 km of the fence in Evros is signed
With regard to the borders on Evros, Mr. Theodorikakos emphasized that our gaze is always there, we are ready because our borders must be guaranteed and our security passes through there. January and February, we have over 10,000 illegal immigrants who tried to cross the border but the presence of the Police and our critics there has put up a barrier.
For this reason we have accelerated the construction of the fence. We are moving on to the next 35 km which will cost 100 million euros and are fully covered by our national budget. The contract will be signed this week and work will begin immediately with the aim of having it ready in ten months.
However, since we are interested in the construction of the fence along the entire length of the Evros, an effort is also being made by the prime minister to receive European funds because Europe owes a tangible thank you to Greece for the work it does and secures the European borders”.
