The Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, is currently at the scene of the tragedy, and is being informed of all the latest developments by the Fire Department officers.

The Prime Minister is accompanied by the Minister of Transport, Kostas Karamanlis, who earlier, visibly moved, stated that the causes of the tragedy will be investigated and nothing will be swept under the carpet.

“Right now everyone’s thoughts are with the victims and their families. You know and understand that this is a very difficult search and rescue operation. We still do not know the exact number of victims.

But I want and am obliged to say one thing: That we will investigate with absolute seriousness, with absolute transparency, the causes of this tragic event.

What we say now will be premature and in essence I would tell you that we are desecrating the people who have perished. Therefore, I would like all of us to show composure and stick to what I told you, that we will do everything to investigate the causes and not leave anything under the carpet,” said Mr. Karamanlis.
