“Anyone who hinted at the Prime Minister these days we have to see what we do with the elections was kicked out of the meeting. Any allusion to this matter was out of place and time. On the occasion of the train accident in Tempe, Mr. Economou emphasized that “we are in the tragic situation of pain, sadness, anger of the Greek society for the tragedy. There are no words for the people who left, there are no words for the people who mourn their children, their relatives. There are no words for the people who are outraged and say that it is possible in 2023 that this is happening”.

“Justice and truth are really the minimum towards those who perished and their relatives. Nothing and no one will stand in the way of doing the work of clarifying the situation, of investigating it in depth,” added Mr. Oikonomou, emphasizing: “In this unspeakable tragedy, all the pathologies of the last 15 years are reflected. The issue is not who has the least or most responsibility. We have assumed the responsibility that belongs to us. The effort is being made so that Greek society gets the answers it needs.”

The government representative also underlined that “without a doubt the commission will do its work freely, without commitment. Everything will be looked into by the committee and the Court. Everything will be investigated, everything will come to light and everyone will see what happened. This is no time for partisan bickering, for one to point out to the other his great faults. Nor is it a time for set-offs. There is no way that the responsibilities will not be given where they should be, that the truth will not come to light so that we do not have tragedies like this again.”

“The committee’s main task is to look at systemic problems. Everything will be looked into by the committee”, explained Mr. Economou.
