At March 29 is expected the Commission to present its legislative proposal on medicines. The Commissioner for Health and Food Safety Stella Kyriakidou he spoke of six goals, speaking at an event of the Permanent Representation of Austria in Brussels.

Initially, as he pointed out, we must “to ensure that all Europeans have access to both innovative and established medicines when they need them, wherever they live.”

At the same time, Ms Kyriakidou highlighted the need to ensure that the EU pharmaceutical industry can innovate and remain globally competitive, while underlining that “it’s about reform to address drug shortages’which will enhance security of supply.

In addition, the European Commissioner referred to the pursuit of more environmentally sustainable medicines, but also of means to combat antimicrobial resistance.

Finally, Stella Kyriakidou focused on the need for a leaner regulatory environment for investment with simplified and faster authorization processes, stronger support for promising medicines and better use of data and digitalisation.
