Washington is pushing Turkey for Sweden and Finland to join NATO, and in return it is reportedly promising the F-16s that Turkey wants to buy.
The issue was raised in the meeting of the White House national security representative Jake Sullivan with the representative of the Turkish president Ibrahim Kalin as reported by SKAI’s Istanbul correspondent Manolis Kostidis.
“Turkey sees the developments and balances in the region and in order to have supremacy in the airwaves it is working hard on the issue of technologies. To maintain the balance in the ethers in the first phase it plans to procure F-16 Block 70 as well as to modernize them. Thus, in the short term, 4th generation fighters are expected to join the Air Force. In the medium term with the inclusion of the national fighter. the Turkish Armed Forces will have fifth-generation fighters” states the TGRT news release.
“Indeed, there are reports that the national fighter will prevail on many features of the F-35″ it is mentioned in a very optimistic tone in TGRT!
In this context, ErdoÄŸan finally gave the “green light” for Finland’s accession to NATO. “On Friday we will keep what we promised in Finland” he said, ahead of his Finnish counterpart’s visit to Ankara on Friday.
“If God wants. Good luck. We will do our duty. We will keep our word for what we promised. On Friday we will meet with the president and we will keep our word” he said characteristically.
