The President of the Republic Katerina Sakellaropoulou visited yesterday, Wednesday March 15, the headquarters of the 338th Squadron at the Andravidas Air Base, where the recently fallen Sgt. Efstathios Tsitlakidis and Lt. Sgt. Marios – Michael Turoutsikas, captain and co-pilot of the fatal Phantom that crashed on Monday, served January 30, 2023 in the sea area 25 nautical miles south of Andravida airport, during the execution, under extremely demanding conditions, of a training flight.

The President of the Republic was welcomed by the Undersecretary of National Defense Nikos Hardalias and the Chief of Tactical Aviation Lieutenant General Georgios Fasoulas while K. Sakellaropoulou was informed about the organization, the mission and the operational work of the wing and the 338 Squadron.

Afterwards, the commander of the 338 Squadron, Vice-Commander (I) Leonidas Gavrielidis, presented the actions performed and the procedures followed before each flight, while a demonstration of the Squadron’s F-4E Phantom II fighter aircraft took place.

Finally, the President of the Republic and the Deputy Minister of National Defense spoke with pilots, technicians and administrative staff of the Squadron.
