Such a tragic accident could not fail to have an impact on the government, said the Minister of Development, Adonis Georgiadesspeaking on the show “Today” on SKAI and commenting on the results of yesterday’s polls that show a drop in the percentages of New Democracy.

It is the normal reaction to what is seen in the opinion polls, he said and commented that despite all this, SYRIZA, which is the main opponent of the government, does not collect any additional percentages.

“We have more of a world rage that leads to an anti-systemic behavior,” he said, predicting that the furor would subside.

He even commented that SYRIZA’s perception of opinion polls “is becoming somewhat tiresome”.

The Minister of Development added that “we are all upset, but the upset is not a party issue, there is not a parent who did not think that it could be their child on the train.”

Commenting on yesterday’s poll, he said that only 8% believed it was human error and added that it was a failure of the government that we failed to explain what was happening.

“It’s the definition of human error, it’s absolutely obvious what happened, that specific people in a tight spot made a series of mistakes, one mistake after another. It was inelegant to discuss the station master’s mistakes while we were burying the children.”

He stated that from the first moment after the accident he emphasized that the electronic system was working. “I didn’t say it out of my head, there is a recording machine, everything has been handed over to the investigator and the prosecutor, it is part of the case file,” he said.

He added that the stationmaster “had 12.5 minutes of a red line flashing at him that the train was on the wrong track, it had a sound and a button that if pressed would brake the trains. The board screamed, it’s all recorded.”

He emphasized that there were safety valves that would have prevented the accident, but “here we have the image of Greece that we don’t want” he commented describing the tragic events that happened shortly before and after the tragic accident.

Mr. Georgiadis added that “our share of responsibility is that we did not clash with the deep state, the deep public. The stake of the elections must be that the time has come to clash with the part of old Greece”.

For Kostas Karamanlis

Asked about the resigned Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Costas Karamanlis said that “he made the decision to resign in the first year, which is extremely rare, I don’t know many who would do that, and he took on himself more responsibilities than they were due, because after all Karamanlis’ act of responsibility was sold to society as guilt”.

He added: “Karamanlis is not responsible for the accident, political responsibility is a general concept, he took it on bravely, but he is not responsible for the station master’s mistake. The cannibalism that followed will work negatively in the future, no politician will want to resign.”

Regarding the candidacy of Mr. Karamanlis, he commented that “there is no question of him not being a candidate, he is an MP of Serres, it will be decided by the voters of Serres whether he will return to the Parliament”.

Finally, Mr. Georgiadis said that “we all support Kyriakos Mitsotakis, we trust him to do the job. Mitsotakis must be the people’s choice, Mitsotakis did not do much in four years. Let’s not destroy and stonewall a 4 year recovery effort. Mitsotakis will change everything if the people give him the chance.”
