“He found another ‘invention’ to oppose the Government, not caring if in his effort it hurts the country”, says the government representative
New political confrontation, on the occasion of his exhibition Department of Statebroke out between the government and SYRIZA.
The government representative, Yiannis Oikonomou, responded to the statement of the SYRIZA representative, Popi Tsapanidoustressing that the official opposition party “found another find to oppose the government”.
In more detail, the statement of Mr. Housekeeper:
A desperate and unrestrained SYRIZA applies polarization to issues that have to do with the image of our country in the international arena.
SYRIZA – without knowledge and at the same time completely distorting the truth – wants us to believe that in the State Department’s annual report on human rights in Greece, it found another “finding” to oppose the Government, regardless of whether in its efforts it harms the homeland. Of course, he overlooks that similar and worse reports were recorded in the years when Mr. Tsipras ruled.
For the information of Ms. Tsapanidou and as a reminder to the rest of SYRIZA, we quote some information from the report regarding 2018, during the administration of Mr. Tsipras, where the State Department already points out on the first page human rights issues, which include “complaints about repatriation of applicants asylum, corruption and violence that targeted members of the LGBTI community, and refugee women and children”, while the report also lists attacks on journalists and violations of the rule of law in various areas.
In the section on torture and inhumane treatment, the 2018 report notes that “there have been reports of ill-treatment of migrants, asylum seekers, protesters and Roma, including children, in police centers and detention facilities”.
“Conditions in prisons and detention centers, including detention centers, were consistently inconsistent with national and international standards,” the State Department notes.
In the chapter referring to abuses, it notes that in 2018 “NGOs reported incidents of violence by security forces motivated by racism or hatred”, adding that in 2017 the supervisory agencies recorded 117 complaints of abuse of power by forces of order.
In the section on freedoms, it is stated that “journalists have been victims of physical attacks, harassment or because of their work in at least seven cases”. Similar issues are recorded in the reports of the other years when SYRIZA ruled.
So let the speculation stop. Greece is a European state of law. Problems presented in various areas are addressed in this light, as recorded in the thorough and well-documented reports of the European Commission and other organizations that note the progress being made. After all, the State Department report itself states that:
“the Government takes steps to investigate, prosecute and punish officials who committed human rights abuses or were involved in corruption cases, whether in the security forces or elsewhere in the public administration and government.”
SYRIZA, following the methods of polarization to the letter, continues furiously looking for ways to hurt the Government, without being moved by the fact that it is thus hurting our country itself.
Popi Tsapanidou’s statement
Earlier, the representative of SYRIZA, Popi Tsapanidou, had stated:
I wonder how the perpetrators of the abuse of human rights, democracy and information in Greece, described in the darkest colors not by SYRIZA, but by the State Department, feel.
What the US State Department’s report states is not news to us.
We know them and we live them.
News is the international dragging of the country, on the eve of our national holiday, by a government and a prime minister, who promised national rebirth and are leading us to national humiliation.
I believe that anyone who reads the State Department report will agree that we do not deserve this Greece.
It doesn’t go any further!
