The statement of Nikos Androulakis is an own goal, and even unwittingly rewards Kyriakos Mitsotakis, Deputy Interior Minister Stelios Petsas said speaking to SKAI.

Explaining, he noted that “one cannot think of any leader of PASOK, a party that has left such a mark on society, who could say such a thing. He is fishing in murky waters, to see if there is anyone more suitable than his own leader.”

He added that “a people, a not inconsiderable percentage of PASOK with anti-SYRIZA characteristics from the PASOK area, voted for Mitsotakis in 2019. Now seeing the politically outrageous positions of Mr. Androulakis, they will trust the one who can provide stability, and that is Kyriakos Mitsotakis ».

Mr Petsas predicted this would show in the next polls as it was a politically unthinkable statement that would further polarise.

“We do not see anything serious in this proposal” he added and said that “we will not get into the mind of Mr. Androulakis and we will not speculate about persons. I don’t think he’s in any position to reveal a person.”

Continuing that this attitude shows a problem of political direction in the logic that ‘I don’t want Mitsotakis and Tsipas for prime minister’. But it’s not just about Tsipras and Mitsotakis, it’s also about Varoufakis, I don’t think that politically it’s an attitude that can lead anywhere, but PASOK will also decline.”

Regarding the time of the elections, he said that the prime minister is consistent, as he has said that he wants to use up the four-year period, while one must take into account that we are going to the polls by simple proportionality.

He added that it will be a political victory for the system if, after the change that will occur after the second elections, we consolidate an electoral system, while he expressed the belief that despite the tragedy of Tempe, self-reliance will emerge after the second ballot.

Asked about the party state he said that this is an element to be initiated where failed statesmen will not come from the back door and occupy positions in the state.

He added that there is also evaluation and mobility aimed at a better functioning public.

Finally, he noted that water is not being privatized, despite what the opposition claims.
