The port of Agios Konstantinos, where he was informed about the ongoing expansion and upgrading projects, and Kamena Vourla, where he attended the presentation of the investment plan for the revival of the spa town, were the two first stops of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis in the context of his visit to the Regional Unit of Fthiotida. inspection of the project works at the port, with a budget of 9.8 million euros, which is part of the Public Investment Program and implemented by the Region of Central Greece.
The interventions in Agios Konstantinos, which are expected to be completed in May, will substantially contribute to the revival of passenger and commercial traffic. Berths will be increased to six, from the current two, while the land area of ​​the port will be expanded by 3,745 square meters and will have quality, modern infrastructure for the reception of travelers. The new port will have an area of ​​6,815 m2.
The upgraded facilities will be able to accommodate passenger-vehicle ferries of up to 100 meters in length and hydrofoils, improving the coastal connections of Central Greece with the islands of the Sporades. At the same time, Agios Konstantinos will for the first time acquire the possibility of serving small and medium cruise ships, giving a further boost to the economy of the region and facilitating access to nearby areas of great interest, such as Delphi.
The new port works will also increase the protection and improve the facilities of the neighboring fishing sanctuary, which is of particular importance to the local community.
The investment plan for the spa town of Kameni Vourla aims to reintegrate the area into the tourist map and re-emerge as a destination for wellness-related activities.
The Prime Minister was given a tour of the site by the Managing Director of the Mitsis Hotels group Stavros Mitsis and the President Christina Mitsis. He was informed about the projects, which will be carried out in the framework of a long-term lease signed after a tender between TAIPED and the highest bidder Mitsis group. The interventions include the utilization of historical facilities of the spa town and the continuation of the operation of existing units.
The plan envisages the restoration of the abandoned hotels “Radion” and “Thronion” and the also abandoned hydrotherapy center “Asclepios”, renovation of the hydrotherapy center “Hippokratis”, maintenance of the hotel “Galini” with 5-star standards, utilization and upgrading of the recognized thermal spring “Georgala”, as well as interventions for the formation of green areas, pedestrians, vehicle parking and a perimeter ring to improve traffic.
