What does the Constitution provide if independence is not achieved in the May 21 polls
At the end of April it is expected that the decree of the dissolution of the Parliament will be sealed, after the announcement of the holding of the national elections on 21 May. There are only a few days left for the production of parliamentary work and the two weeks of holidays will intervene in the work of the Parliament for Easter. The Parliament is expected to be closed until M. Wednesday at the latest and its dissolution is timed between April 22 and 28.
On May 21, the national elections will be held using the simple proportional system and it is considered at least extremely difficult to achieve independence with 151 seats for any party. Once this is established, according to the Constitution, the process of exploratory orders to form a government begins, with the President of the Republic Katerina Sakellaropoulou giving the order to the leader of the first party, who for three days will have the possibility of meetings and consultations aimed at the formation of a government with the participation of another party or parties. If the command is unsuccessful, then the leader of the second party takes the command and the process is repeated. If even then there is no result, then the command is given to the leader of the third party. Even if he returns her, then, on the tenth day after the elections, Mrs. Sakellaropoulou will convene a meeting of political leaders in a last-ditch effort to form a government. This is chronologically placed on May 31st. If no agreement is reached even then, then an order is given to hold new elections. It is noted that the political leaders who receive an order to form a government are not obliged to use up the margin of three days and can even return it on the same day or at the moment, within the three days, when they judge that it will not be effective.
The parliament that will have emerged from the May 21 elections will be sworn in and the next day will be dissolved so that the country can go to the second ballot, with a caretaker government. The second election is thus set for July 2.
