With an account of deeds and a clear indication of the ND’s planning for the path to the polls, but also for the next four years on the basis of the formation of an independent government Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis movedat the 50th regular meeting of his cabinet, during which he announced an appeal to the polls on May 21.

In his introductory statement, Mr. Mitsotakis made extensive references both to the challenges faced by the government from 2019 until today, as well as to its achievements, without missing, however, references to the “mistakes that were not missing”, but also to the tragedy of Tempe which he described as painful and traumatic. He even added that the reversal of irresponsible behaviors that undermine collective progress is a clear priority for the next day.

Mr. Mitsotakis was clear about the ND’s goal of self-reliance afterwards “the adventure of simple analog”, while at the same time he answered once again to the president of KINAL about the face of the prime minister, stressing that citizens should know who they are voting for as prime minister.
“We have a continuing duty to expose the ungovernability trap of mere proportionality, explaining that the first ballot will determine who will govern, while the second ballot will determine how to govern. And stressing that in an extremely unstable world the country needs stable leadership, that’s why citizens need to know who they are voting for as Prime Minister”he said and added:
“I would encourage you to also use examples from other European countries that have fallen into a quagmire of instability, precisely because they have as their electoral system the simple proportional one, which very often leads, indeed, to anarchy. In neighboring Bulgaria, elections will be held on Sunday. It is the fifth election, I repeat, the fifth election in two years.”

Mr. Mitsotakis concluded by asking with clarity the demand for self-reliance and the dilemma before the ballot boxthat is, if the country will continue to claim and win the bet of modernization.

He specifically said: “An independent New Democracy means a strong Greece. A condition to obtain a more efficient state, with better wages for all, decent, better health in better hospitals, affordable housing especially for our young people. Greek men and women in the elections of May 21 will finally choose whether the country will continue to claim and win the bet of modernization. It showed how difficult this is. And they will finally judge two different terms in the economy, in society, in defense, in foreign policy, in the international representation of the country. They will also judge the preparedness and ability to manage crises, but – I believe – they will also judge honesty, political sensitivity and continuous effort.”

The prime minister, however, made extensive references to what his government has achieved in the last four years, noting that the government’s work is reflected in 402 laws that cover the entire spectrum of public policy

“These are, as you know, initiatives that were implemented while simultaneously managing successive crises. The pandemic, the challenges of our neighbors in the Aegean, the attempted immigration invasion, most recently the energy “explosion”, the imported precision from the war in Ukraine, a series of natural disasters, developments in which, however, the state has managed to raise a series of strong “dykes”, said and mentioned, among other things:
– We have almost zero electricity price increases, we now have the sixth lowest inflation in Europe, while emergency income support will continue as long as the threat of international precision lasts

-We reduced taxes and contributions, we support and have supported the average income, today we have an economy that is growing at a rate almost twice the average of the eurozone. I remind you, we were tailbacks in growth in 2019.

We made a commitment and put it into practice that we will bring in a lot of foreign investment, that we will create jobs. We have created 300,000 jobs. We have dropped unemployment by 6 percentage points. We have strengthened Health and Education. We have recruited 25,000 permanent teaching staff in Education.

-All this within a new digital state, which, however, needs a new operating structure, not only higher salaries but also with constant evaluation. And this will be the next national bet. In fact, already today we will discuss the reward of efficiency in the State and the fastest appointments through the new unified ASEP competition, I remind you after a two-year paid trial period.
