“If we have learned anything from our history, it is that in the face of challenges, in the face of enemies, every time we were divided we lost and every time we faced them united, raising our national flag, we won.” This was emphasized by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Miltiadis Varvitsiotis, as stated in his announcement, speaking today at the presentation of the book “The Hellenism of the Pontus” by the jurist-internationalist, professor of Military Schools, Dr. Ioannis S. Papafloratou, in the packed hall of the Glyfada town hall.

In particular, it is pointed out that Mr. Varvitsiotis spoke of an excellent book, “really documented, broad and substantial, written by a young man”, who has been dealing with the history of Pontus for 20 years and illuminates aspects of the genocide of the Pontion in the background of the revolution of the Young Turks and their attempt to transform the multinational Ottoman Empire into a modern state with a Turkish identity, clearing areas with a Christian element.

The deputy minister even noted that one of the goals set by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the next period is to strengthen the translation of such publications into languages such as English, French, Italian, but also Turkish and Arabic, so that such books to be placed on the shelves of universities and become part of the world heritage.

In closing, Mr. Varvitsiotis thanked Mr. Papaflorato for his valuable work and called “to teach our children that we do not want any more lost homelands but we always want our country to be strong and to be on the right side of history.”

The event was organized by “LEIMON” publications and the Pontian Association of Glyfada “ROMANIA”.
