The common will of the two countries for the further development of strategic Greek-Egyptian relations was expressed by Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Soukry during joint statements with Nikos Dendias, after their meeting in Athens.

The relations between Greece and Egypt are of strategic importance, which are based on solid values, the principles of good neighborliness and International Law, Sameh Soukry emphasized.

The Egyptian Foreign Minister made special reference to International Law and the Law of the Sea, noting that “we handle each issue with our full commitment and respect for these provisions in mind». During the meeting, he noted that the delimitation of the EEZ was discussed.

Many times we feel that one side in the discussions puts its position in the position of the other side, so the whole discussion is facilitated and all this within the framework of the provisions of International Law and the Law of the Seahe said.

In addition, he referred to the relations between the two countries in the defense sector, as well as political, economic and commercial cooperation.

Addressing Nikos Dendias, Sameh Soukri thanked him for the warm welcome and excellent hospitality and underlined that the talks are characterized by transparency and reliability.

We talk to each other without restrictions, because we have common principles, goals. Our goals are consistent with the need to achieve stability in the Middle East and beyondhe announced.

He also agreed with the statements of Nikos Dendias on the mutual support of the two countries’ candidacies in international organizations.

It is based on mutual trust, with no trade-offsHe pointed out and sent the message that this will continue and that it is one of the characteristics of the existing strategic relations between Greece and Egypt.

The Egyptian Foreign Minister emphasized the importance of the electrical interconnection between Egypt and Greece and through Greece to the European continent, as well as the Eastern Mediterranean Natural Gas Forum.

Furthermore, he expressed Egypt’s special satisfaction for the tripartite cooperation with Greece and Cyprus.

Its results are to the benefit of the three countries, he noted and conveyed that Egypt is looking forward to the organization of the tripartite summit (Greece, Cyprus, Egypt) in the second half of the year, in order to strengthen this mechanism of particular importance at the political and economic level.

He pointed out that Egypt is making every effort to promote all the projects that have been agreed upon, adding that a large part has been fulfilled. At the same time, he referred to the recent visit of the President of the Republic of Cyprus to Egypt and the agreement with Greece on the issue of seasonal workers.

Referring to Egypt’s partnership with the EU, he pointed out that the upcoming convocation of the partnership committee looks forward to further strengthening the course and that Greece has full knowledge of the developments in the wider region.

Summarizing the cooperation of the two countries in various fields, he said that it reflects and confirms the common will to further strengthen it.

Regarding his upcoming visit to Turkey, he said that “we will continue the path we started to achieve the normalization of relations, with the same bases on which we have our relations with other sides, such as non-interference in the internal affairs of the other country, non-violence and (avoidance of) actions that will affect negatively the regional situation».

Next, Sameh Shukri addressed regional issues. As far as the Palestinian issue is concerned, the Egyptian Foreign Minister spoke of a sustainable and fair solution, based on the establishment of two states.

Finally, regarding the situation in Libya, he said that Egypt seeks to regain its unity and integrity and to have an intra-Libyan agreement in order to achieve peace. Egypt is making every effort to have democratic elections in Libya, he added.
