The Greece-Egypt agreement for electrical interconnection will undoubtedly be a “catalyst” in dealing with energy security issues in Greece and Europe, as Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Soukry emphasized to SKAI.

Mr. Soukry explained that the goal is to make full use of the special and historical relations that exist between Egypt and Greece.

The strategic relationship and level of trust between the two governments, he further stated, rests on a very strong foundation.

“As I mentioned in the press conference, between the two peoples, the bond of the Greeks who have lived in Egypt and the Egyptians who have lived in Greece is strong.”

“This leads us to find new areas of cooperation”, he underlined, summarizing that among them is the recognition of the need for new sources of energy for Europe.

“Egypt has the resources, it has the ability to produce green energy through wind and solar energy and green hydrogen that can benefit maintaining the balance of the planet and at the same time provide energy to our partners in Europe.”

Speaking both about the relations with Greece, the re-approach between Cairo and Ankara and the wider issues concerning the South-Eastern Mediterranean.

In particular, commenting on the bilateral relations between Greece and Turkey, Mr. Soukri expressed the hope that they would take a turn in a positive direction, towards compromise and the recognition of interests.

At the same time, he pointed out the need for the differences between the two countries to be addressed through the political process in order to reach conclusions that can support and satisfy the interests of both sides in an equal and fair manner.
