A complaint of “serious criminal offences” against the MEP, Alexis Georgoulis, was made to the Belgian authorities in 2020 and was made personal in 2020, according to information cited by APE.

The information states that the complaint is named – both in terms of the complainant and in terms of the alleged perpetrator – from the time close to the act.

The case became known in Greece yesterday afternoon, when at the beginning of the Plenary Session of the European Parliament, the president of the body, Roberta Metsola, announced from Strasbourg that she had received a request to lift the immunity of the SYRIZA MEP, for a case concerning incident of abuse.

The request of the Belgian authorities to waive immunity is forwarded to the competent Committee on Legal Affairs of the European Parliament. The Commission will vote on this in a week or two, in order for the request to go back to the Plenary and to start the process of lifting his parliamentary immunity.

The Eurogroup of SYRIZA showed Mr. Georgoulis the exit door after the news, while SYRIZA put him out of the party.
