In the context of his radio interview with the First Program and the journalist Evangelia Baltatzisthe President of PASOK-Movement for Change, Nikos Androulakis, referred to Georgoulis case.

“A young woman got one brave decision three years ago – not now, as some want to pass off in public opinion – to claim her rights against criminal acts. She chose, again, in a brave way to face this tragic situation completely alone, together with her lawyers. We didn’t have any information and as far as I know her family didn’t either – trying to protect them – until the last couple of days when some people released her information. While for three years the Belgian authorities managed this case in complete secrecy, suddenly within minutes everyone knew her name, her photos were released and an attempt at cannibalism began. With such attitudes, the effort to encourage other victims of criminal acts to report these events is essentially undermined.” noted Mr. Androulakis.

“For my part, I will do everything I can, so that the life, the daily routine, the expectations of this person do not change from the publication of this fact. And I say this because we must stand by every woman who feels insecure, the fear of being targeted and is not encouraged to take similar initiatives. We must defend human rights. Some on the altar of television viewing or internet clicks have developed a behavior that I would not say is worthy of our country, our culture.” added the President of PASOK-Movement for Change.

“A few months ago, some people told us – and I’m talking about Mr. Tsipras – that the Belgian justice system works perfectly and the Greek justice system should imitate it. Yesterday the spokesperson of the party, Mrs. Tsapanidou, finally told us that Belgian justice has problems in its operation. Delays, questions about the time when the immunity waiver application was made. The problem is not Belgian justice. The problem is that some people in Greece have a very bad mentality and evaluate criminal acts in relation to their persons and political identity and not to the acts themselves. They tried to leak through journalists that this complaint was made now, in the last few months, so it has a political content. While they know very well that the complaint has been made since 2020. Some, -both Mr. Georgoulis and the representative of SYRIZA-, are trying to give another tone to this event, which for me shows – beyond the development of this case – a wrong practice, a very bad mentality. We must all stand up to these attitudes and examine such situations and such events without putting politics or selfishness as the central element of dealing with it, but with a view to the defense of human rights, the defense of the rule of law” emphasized the President of PASOK-Movement for Change.

Referring to online targeting, Mr. Androulakis pointed out: “Unfortunately, in this case too, I see powerful and organized internet systems trying to deconstruct the complainant in various ways. I personally and our faction will stand in the way of such practices. Not because it concerns a member of our party, but because it concerns every Greek woman and every Greek man whose rights and personality must be absolutely respected.”

Regarding the post-election collaborations, the President of PASOK-Movement for Change noted that “our political opponents are looking for a way to deconstruct my proposal, without saying what they will do. I have said clearly: With a strong double-digit percentage we start program discussions based on the priorities we have to change Greece. I have also said that the persons who will lead this government must be of common acceptance. I will not say who will be the Prime Minister or the Minister of Foreign Affairs or the Minister of Economy. They will be persons of mutual acceptance, who will be able to express the content of the program agreement. These persons cannot be the protagonists of the problems, the inequalities, the violation of human rights, the instrumentalization of the institutions, who have been the protagonists in covering up very big scandals in our country such as television licenses or illegal surveillance. They will be persons of high prestige and credibility.”

He reiterated that PASOK-Movement for Change advocates another political model. “I’m not fighting a power struggle. I am fighting a battle because I believe that a strong PASOK with its social democratic program will be a guardian for the necessary changes, for social justice, social welfare and security to come to our country”.

“This faction, in its proud new beginning, is not going to operate in a way that will challenge the relationship of trust that I build every day with the Greek people. So, blackmails like those of Mr. Mitsotakis that “I will hold as many elections as it takes to become prime minister”, PASOK does not tolerate them and will not legalize them. And that is why I have been fighting since the first Sunday, with a strong democratic faction, with a strong PASOK, for the country to have an orientation of prosperity, social justice and stability. The games of instability emanate from the authoritarianism of Mr. Mitsotakis and Mr. Tsipras” pointed out Mr. Androulakis.

Addressing the citizens, Mr. Androulakis raised the stake of the ballot box: “Every vote in PASOK is a vote for a change of page, social justice and social welfare, respect for institutions against those who use them as tools to cover up Pappas, Dimitriadis, their cronies, who deal with criminal acts a la carte based on political identity of the persons involved. That’s enough. With a strong PASOK we will have a political system that respects the citizen and his rights and we will have stability from the first Sunday, without the opportunism of Mr. Mitsotakis and Mr. Tsipras. This new era is a new era of responsibility and consistency in order for the Greek state to finally become a state of normal European functioning and not a tool in the hands of the respective interests. We will be next to those who have common anxieties and are asking for a new era of brave changes for the benefit of the citizen, the environment, society, the welfare state”.
