The way is opened for European financing of infrastructures such as the Evros fence. The amendment of the European People’s Party, which allows the financing of related infrastructures, was voted.

With 322 votes, the EPP amendment was voted in plenary according to which funds should be mobilized immediately to strengthen capacities and infrastructure at the borders.

In particular, the EPP amendment on the financing of infrastructure at the EU’s external borders was voted for by 322 MEPs, 290 voted against it and 20 abstained from voting. Now the issue will be processed again in the European Parliament taking into account the text of the EPP amendment that was voted.

The development was commented on by the MEP of New Democracy, Anna Michelle Asimakopoulou, who in her post states that “the European Parliament gave a resounding response, as the Papadimoulis amendment for not funding the fence on the Evros was defeated and the EPP amendment allowing the financing related infrastructure. We continue, for Greece”.
