The Kremlin dismissed the information as “false” and “baseless” accusations
THE Russia implements program espionage in its waters Northern Europe and there are suspicions that it uses several dozen warships and non-warships for reconnaissance missions in view of potential sabotage operations, according to a documentary that will be broadcast today by the largest television networks of the countries of northern Europe.
The Kremlin dismissed the information as “wrong” and “unfounded” categories, repeating the sentence for “international transparent and unbiased research” for the sabotage of the Nord Stream pipelines in the Baltic Sea last September.
According to a joint investigation by the television networks NRK (Norway), DR (Denmark), SVT (Sweden) and Yle (Finland), which cites information from the Intelligence services of these countries, Moscow uses the oceanographic vessel Amiral Vladimirsky for espionage purposes, officially a ship of scientific missions.
Watch the Telegraph’s video of the Russian ship in the North Sea:
During a mission in late 2022, this ship sailed close to offshore wind farms off Denmark and the United Kingdom, referring to an energy infrastructure reconnaissance mission.
A team from the DR network approached the Amiral Vladimirsky by zodiac. Two soldiers in balaclavas and guns in hand came out onto the bridge to show her that she had been spotted, according to a clip broadcast by the Danish network.
Russian intelligence services also use fishing vessels, cargo ships and even yachts equipped with underwater surveillance and radios, according to the investigation.
The documentary titled “The Shadow War” is about the suspicious discovery by Norwegian police of old Soviet radios along with a radio operator in locked cabins of Russian fishing boats.
In Sweden, 27 such vessels have sailed within Swedish territorial waters and docked at Swedish ports in the last five years.
In Norway, over a ten-year period, at least 50 Russian ships “were able to illegally gather information” based on their tracks through their AIS (Automatic Identification System) electronic signature, according to NRK.
The documentary, which will be broadcast this evening, provoked an immediate reaction from Moscow, which claims that responsibility for the sabotage of the Nord Stream pipelines lies with the West.
“The media of these countries have made a mistake in their investigation. They again prefer to baselessly accuse Russia,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said. “We would prefer that they pay more attention to the attacks against Nord Stream and to an international transparent and impartial investigation into these acts of sabotage.”
