The Presidential Decree was sealed according to which the Greek Parliament is officially dissolved and thus begins the pre-election period and the country’s march to the national elections on May 21.

The Presidential Decree for the dissolution of the Parliament was taped to the east entrance of the Parliament building, as is customary by the guard of the Parliament, and the country now officially enters the election season that will lead it to the polls on May 21.

In the presidential decree, May 21 is recorded as the date of the national elections, but also the date of the convocation of the Parliament with the composition that will result from the polls, which will be June 1.

Earlier today, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis went to the presidential palace where he met with the President of the Republic, Katerina Sakellaropoulou, from whom he requested the dissolution of Parliament and the announcement of elections.

“I have just delivered to the President of the Hellenic Republic the Act of the Council of Ministers by which I officially propose the dissolution of the Parliament and the announcement of national elections on Sunday, May 21.

With the substantial completion, that is, of our first government term, as I had committed from the beginning and as it is actually happening”, Mr. Mitsotakis noted in his today’s message to the citizens, underlining that “political stability is becoming a national necessity and the trajectory of progress only way to the homeland, therefore also a decisive criterion for our vote tomorrow”.

“Greece needs a clear perspective on its path and clear solutions in its leadership”, said Kyriakos Mitsotakis, thus sending his own message to the voters, with their eyes now on the ballot box.

It is recalled that as it became known yesterday, Kalliopi Spanou, professor of Administrative Science at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and former Ombudsman, is taking over the duties of acting Minister of the Interior, replacing Makis Voridis, ahead of the May 21 elections.

At the same time, the Minister of State Akis Skertsos, who will not be a candidate for the next Parliament, assumes the duties of government representative in place of Yiannis Oikonomou.
